Private Charter - Road Traffic Department
This service is for the registration of a vehicle bearing a Private Charter plate. Private Charter Vehicles operate pre-arranged tour transfers or sightseeing tours.
Eligibility:
To obtain a Private Charter Franchise, an applicant must be in possession of a valid Public Service Driver’s Licence.
Process:
The following steps are applicable when registering a public service franchise (Private Charter):
- The applicant having been granted a Private Charter plate must take the relevant documentation to the Road Traffic Department Inspection Centre to have their Public Service vehicle inspected.
- Inspector will verify all relevant information and inspect the vehicle.
- Upon being satisfied with the fitness of the vehicle the inspector will issue an Inspection Information Form (only for new vehicles) and an Inspection Pass Certificate.
- The applicant must take the required documents, along with the Inspection Pass Certificate to the Road Traffic Department Franchise Unit (Clarence Bain Building) for registration of the vehicle.
- The Registration Clerk will verify that the relevant vehicle and franchise information provided meets the requirements of the department. If satisfactory, the Clerk will register the public service vehicle.
- The Registration Clerk will calculate fees and issue the Vehicle Information Disc for payment.
- The applicant must take the vehicle Information Disc and Pass Inspection Certificate to the Cashier for validation.
- The Cashier will inform the applicant of the required fees to the have Vehicle Information Disc and Inspection Certificate validated.
- Upon payment of the required fees by the applicant, the Cashier will issue the valid Vehicle Information Disc and Inspection Permit.

Applicant will be required to complete a Road Traffic Vehicle Information Form available at the Road Traffic Department, Franchise Unit.

- Proof of Age Document (Passport, Birth Certificate or Voter’s Card)
- Valid Public Service Driver’s Licence
- Valid Certificate of Insurance or Cover Note
- Valid Business Licence
- Franchise Grant Letter
- Franchise receipt
Deadline:
The month of May is Public Service month when all Public Service Vehicles are licensed. Also, inspection is done twice a year for Public Service Vehicles during the months of May and October.

- Group A – BS$160.00 – vehicle less than 5,000 lbs
- Group B – BS$560.00 – vehicle between 5,001 lbs and 15,000 lbs
- Group C – BS$760.00 – vehicles over 15,000 lbs
- Inspection fee: BS$35.00
- Public Service Fee: BS$20.00
