Franchises - Road Traffic Department
A Public Service franchise is a grant of a government issued plate that permits franchise holders to legally transport passengers for hire or reward. Franchise plates are granted by the Road Traffic Authority Board (with exception of Livery, which the Controller has the authority to grant).
Types of Public Service Franchises:
- Taxi-Cab Licences
- Livery Car Licences
- Self-Drive Vehicle Licences
- Tour Car Vehicle Licences
- Omnibus Franchise
- Public Scheduled Service (Jitney)
- Private Schedule Service
- Privately Chartered Service
Every application for the grant, variation, renewal or transfer of a franchise has to be made in writing to the office of the Road Traffic Controller; however, The Road Traffic Authority Board meets regularly to decide upon issues involving public service franchises.
